There has been much hype about the year-end specials music festivals put up by the 3 major broadcast companies in Korea. And the first to start  it off is SBS with 2009 Gayo DaeJun.

2009 SBS Gayo DaeJun takes place in IlSan Kintex live broadcasted at 9.55PM.

Asia’s superstar group TVXQ’s first Philippine CD release “The 3rd Asia Tour Concert Mirotic Live Album” debuted at #3 in two of the country’s biggest record retail chains – Odyssey and Music One! The album charts are based on the total sales tabulated from the three Music One record stores (Glorietta, Greenbelt and Qu…ezon Avenue) from December 14 to 20, 2009 and Odyssey’s more than 50 record stores nationwide.

Although it’s not an official 5th album, the boys of TVXQ release their live concert album, “TVXQ: The 3rd Asia Tour Concert Mirotic Live Album”! The new live concert CD will consist of tracks from their February 2009 concert at the Seoul Olympic Stadium. Naturally, the guys performed many of the songs off their “Mirotic” album including “Hey! (Don’t Bring Me Down)”, “Crazy Love” and “Wrong Number” but they also made room for older dance hits like “Rising Sun” and “Purple Line”, as well as a few of their Japanese tracks including “Somebody To Love” and “Sky” plus remix versions of perennial favorites “Hug”, “The Way U Are” and “Balloons” adding up to a whopping 34 live tracks!

DBSK was in 27th of 2009 pop culture leading power 30. (No activity in Korea in 2009 but still on TOP XD)

Major criteria for the selection includes ▶Cultural and social influence ▶Power to move the public ▶Economic importance and influence in the business of public culture and so on. Even though the activity made throughout this year had a great influence in the selection, we also carefully considered symbolic power, representation, popularity and so on.

The survey was conducted on 64 businessmen, who are working in the related fields of public culture, for a week starting the 9th of December. Method of the survey was for the subject to select 5 comprehensive ‘power-leaders’ that compositely cover all broadcasting, music businesses, singers etc., and to select 2 people representing each category. We applied different weights for their ranks, the ‘comprehensive’ #1 to #5 were each given 5 to 1 points, and each category’s #1 and #2 were recorded as 2 and 1 points each. These points were summed up, and hence the best public culture leaders of 2009 were selected.

TVXQ members Changmin brought sadness among fans for his weak and thin appearance.

Yes24 did a poll from 21st till 28th December on “Like Seol KyungGoo and Ryu SeungBeom, which is the top showdown you wish to see?” in lieu of the upcoming movie ‘No Forgiveness’ to be aired on 7th January. And the results were announced on 29th December.

A total of 1052 netizens voted and the showdown they wish to see the most is between Kang Ho Dong and Yoo JaeSeok voted at #1 with 48% votes (508).

Voted #2 is the showdown ‘2PM VS Big Bang’ with 26% votes (276). The 2 are 2 of the top boybands in Kpop.

At #3 is ‘Park ChanHo VS Lee Seung Yeop’ with 13% votes (136) and #4 is ‘So Nyeo Shi Dae VS KARA’ with 11% votes (116).

91-er singers SHINee Key, 2AM JinWoo, BEAST Son DongWoon and MBLAQ Mir have all chosen So Nyeo Shi Dae SeoHyun as the same-age celebrity they like the most.

They were recently on KBS ‘Super Junior Kiss The Radio’ show for year-end special. And the 4 of them had revealed, “If we all form a 91-er alumni association, we want to call So Nyeo Shi Dae SeoHyun to join.”

Mir said, “So Nyeo Shi Dae is the romance of all guys” while JinWoon said, “I like SeoHyun so much the password to the computer in the dorm is ‘SeoHyun‘.”

MBLAQ and T-ara members will go on a one-day date.

A member from each team will pair up for MBC Every1 ‘Idol Season 5′ and go on a one-day date to the amusement park together.

Because of the filming, the amusement park was crowded with fans following the filming “couples” around. The “couples” held hands and visited the haunted house together, and stuck to each other like real couples showing their intimate features.

The group’s parody of the drama will be revealed during SBS Gayo Daejun on 29th December. It will be a funny music drama combining the well-loved hit songs and drama for the year.

The new still cuts were revealed on 29th December. And more never-before-revealed still cuts will be released after the show.

SBS Gayo Daejun will take place on 29th December from 9.50PM.

Actor Kim Bum’s 1st single album released in Japan is said to be doing very well in domestic online chart.

His first single ‘Christmas Eve’s Sky’ is gone up to #1 spot on various J-pop charts. The single features Kim Bum’s sweet vocals accompanied by a romantic melody and pretty lyrics, and has been well-received in Japan since it was released on 8th November.

And to commemorate his first single release and to celebrate Christmas , Kim Bum has also went down to Japan for a dinner show with 3,000 fans as an uprising Hallyu star.

2PM Taecyeon talks about the upcoming couple performance with So Nyeo Shi Dae YoonA, “It is just for business.”

Taecyeon wrote on his minihompy diary at 5am on 29th December, “It is just for business.” and emphasized, “Please think of it as Ok Taecyeon’s edition of Mnet Scandal.”

Big Bang’s upcoming concert ‘2010 Big Show’ 1st window ticket sales is sold out in just 5 minutes, with all 12,000 seats taken up by fans.

The window opened at 8pm on 28th December on GMarket for Big Bang’s ‘2010 Big Show’, and the 12,000 seats for 29th January’s show were sold out in just 5 minutes. About 150,000 fans had logged in to get the tickets, making it a record ratio of 12.5:1 competition for the tickets, showing the great interests for Big Bang’s upcoming concert.

Especially since the Big Bang members have only been promoting solo for year 2009, and busy with their Japanese promotions, it has been quite some time since we have seen Big Bang perform as a group domestically. There is great anticipation for this concert by the whole group and in addition, the concert is said to have a strong concert branding over the past years.

The Big Bang members have also gathered together for the concert directing meetings and poster filming amidst their busy schedule preparing for the year-end shows.

It is revealed that for this concert, there will be an overhanging stage which will bring the group closer to the audience. And this is idea given by Daesung and Seungri personally.

Coming 29th December on SBS Gayo Daejun, the 2 will have a grand ‘wedding’. They will be holding a joint stage and performing the proposal song ‘Will You Marry Me’.

The 2 have also been up preparing for the stage, practicing their choreography together. Fans will look forward to the birth of the lovely couple for the show that day.

One of the best music show SBS Inkigayo will have it own ‘SBS Inkigayo Magazine Take 7′.

It was announced by SBS Contents Hub that the show will have its own magazine on 29th December. The magazine for the show, which has received good reviews for its variety of performances, will feature information, interviews and making-of to the show which many viewers are curious about.

It was reported in Chinese media on 24th December that Rain was appointed the publicity ambassador for China SanDong province, also the hometown of Confucius and a province with long history and culture.

According to the report, Rain was chosen for his healthy image and also his fame in both Asia and also in Hollywood. In the report, it was said that Rain “has readily accepted the proposal from SanDong province. SanDong look forward to become one of the representative tourism spot in Asia.

But many Chinese netizens have commented, “This is not any place but Confucius’ hometown and they got a Korean to be the ambassador?”, “Even though I’m a fan of Rain, I don’t want him to be the ambassador of SanDong”, “There are many Chinese celebrities from SanDong, why choose a foreigner?” etc.
